Syrenity, it's AI worth taking a look at
Today, we reach a significant milestone as our app enters an official research assessment. This study will determine if our app has real scientific merit in aiding people with mental health challenges.
At this point it is imperative to clarify that our app is more than just a diary; it's a holistic approach to mental wellness. It's about setting goals, taking entertaining quizzes to track progress, and offering cognitive therapies. One intriguing aspect of integrating AI into our software is ensuring it's ethical and explainable, especially when facing scrutiny from the Institutional Review Board (IRB).
Collaborating with licensed therapists to develop ethical guidelines and coding the AI has been quite the journey. Navigating the review process of the IRB highlighted the importance of ensuring our AI stays within ethical bounds—a challenge many data scientists will encounter in the near future which requires leadership.
Dealing with high-stakes issues like mental health requires careful consideration. Syra tackles subjects like self-harm, PTSD, and depression—areas many companies shy away from. At the recent ViVE conference, we stood out among 2000 vendors for our focus on self-harm and our preventive mental health tools.
One lesson learned is the importance of balancing innovation with ethical responsibility. While I'm always brainstorming new features for the app, I've also learned to filter them through the lens of explainable AI and ethical considerations.
Another lesson is the value of teamwork. While our internal ethics and XAI governance board are still in their infancy, our collaborative approach involving subject matter experts, executives, marketers, product managers, and developers ensures our products meet the ethical standards the world demands.
On a technical note, leveraging fine-tuned open-source models has been crucial for the Syrenity app's success. These models offer flexibility and reliability, unlike their closed, paid counterparts. The seamless performance of the vLLM server on AWS EC2 instances has been impressive, showcasing our commitment to excellence.
As we eagerly anticipate the results of the clinical trial, I'm hopeful that our product will make a real difference in people's lives. Let's keep pushing boundaries and using technology for the betterment of society.
